Washington, D.C.—January 31, 2013— The University of Pennsylvania’s Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program has ranked the Center for Transatlantic Relations (CTR) at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) as the No. 1 university-affiliated think tank in Washington, D.C., No. 5 in the United States and No. 8 in the world.

The 2012 Global Go To Think Tanks rankings report released by the University of Pennsylvania is based on a worldwide survey of 1,900 scholars, journalists, policymakers and peers from 120 countries, evaluating 6,603 think tanks from every region of the world. CTR has consistently featured among the highest-ranked university-affiliated centers of excellence around the world and across the United States since the rankings were first initiated in 2006.

An integral part of SAIS, the Center for Transatlantic Relations, directed by Daniel Hamilton, seeks to advance the U.S.-European partnership in addressing the global challenges of the 21st century. CTR is known for its benchmark studies of U.S.-European economic relations; its Atlantic Basin Initiative of former heads of government and policy institutes from the four Atlantic continents; educational support for the Congressional Caucus on the European Union; work on NATO; and its policy recommendations and daily “must-reads” briefs on issues facing North America and Europe.
