Steven Honig, MAIR, 2023

Steven Honig Profile Image

I graduated from Tufts University in 2019 with a double major in international relations and political science. While my interest in China began as a child in Flushing, Queens, my academic research in cross-strait policy began at Tufts University under Dr. Michael Beckley.

Prior to joining SAIS, I worked in the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, in the Technology and Digital Platforms section. In the division, I was on the United States vs. Google team. Following that, I worked for an East Asian-focused investment management firm. I also interned for Congressman Thomas Suozzi, where I wrote policy pieces for the Congressional-Executive Commission on China.

At SAIS, my areas of concentration center around security, strategy, and statecraft with a regional focus on China. I chose SAIS because of its strong emphasis on Chinese studies. When I spoke with Dr. Carla Freeman and researched on professors like Dr. Andrew Mertha and Dr. Benjamin Purser, it was clear that this program would benefit me both academically and professionally. I am currently serving as a moderator on the SAIS US-China Dialogue and am excited to be a part of the SAIS China Global Research Center.
