Alumni Access to Mason Library
The Johns Hopkins University Libraries offer a number of resources for its alumni, ranging from free access to the Mason Library to fee-based borrowing privileges. Access requires a valid Johns Hopkins Alumni Card or Library Visitor Pass.
Current Johns Hopkins students have priority over alumni and other library guests. In-library privileges may be limited based on availability of seating and resources.
Direct questions about access, including obtaining a Visitor Pass, to saislibrary@jhu.edu. You can also call +1 (202) 663-5900.
There are two levels of alumni borrowing privileges for print materials:
- Mason Library borrowing privileges - $100/year
- All Johns Hopkins University Libraries borrowing privileges - $200/year
To request privileges, email saislibrary@jhu.edu or visit the SAIS Library Circulation Desk.
Alumni borrowing has a 50 book maximum and does not include Interlibrary Loan, Borrow Direct or access to some e-book collections.
Johns Hopkins SAIS alumni are welcome to use Johns Hopkins University databases in the Mason Library, but due to licensing restrictions, off-campus access to the full range of databases ceases within, approximately, a week after graduation.
The Johns Hopkins Alumni Association and the Johns Hopkins University Libraries have partnered to create Hopkins KnowledgeNET (HKNET), which offers alumni free access to some full-text academic journals and other resources.
Set up your KnowledgeNET access.
Graduates who would like to continue using RefWorks can change to an alumni account (instructions). RefWorks allows Johns Hopkins alumni to keep their accounts for their lifetimes.
You can also export your references to another citation manager or, if you do not intend to use RefWorks in the future, do nothing. The information and your ability to access it will disappear when your JHED account expires.
