Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR) '22

Since his youth, Rohail wanted to pursue a calling that promoted the betterment of humanity. As such, he knew that he needed to pursue higher education, particularly in international development, to better understand the world. This prompted Rohail to begin researching graduate schools in a field that pertained to both his career aspirations and personal interests.

For Rohail, SAIS seemed like the perfect fit for a number of reasons. For one, it provided the opportunity to explore the rich professional network of Washington DC. Secondly, the school offered a diverse range of classes and the right balance of both qualitative and quantitative courses to enrich his understanding of various areas such as foreign policy and water management. Thirdly, he wanted to maximize who he could become in the future, and he believed that he would be able to achieve this as a student at SAIS.

After his initial search, Rohail reached out to a few of the school’s alumni for guidance regarding how he could shape his future professional character at SAIS. Those conversations were really helpful and instilled great confidence and desire within him to aim for new heights.
Now a student at SAIS, one of Rohail’s favorite classes has been 'Introduction to Public Health for Development Practitioners,’ where he enjoyed analyzing the subject through various lenses and frameworks that are scientific, economic, social, and political in nature. Furthermore, Rohail found his professor to be inspirational and help him grow academically and professionally.

Outside the classroom, Rohail has worked as a growth and marketing intern in SAIS’ Office of Marketing and Communications, and it has been a great experience! He has been involved in a range of activities, including write-ups for high-level events, as well as strategizing ways to increase student engagement in the digital sphere. He has also contributed to producing multimedia assignments such as the school’s Year-in-Review, marketing-related videos, interactive posts, and research aimed at growing the school’s social media channels.

After graduating from SAIS, Rohail hopes to work in the field of international development, but he is also open to working in broader aspects within international institutions. In particular, he is very interested in working with agencies like USAID or the World Bank. As he continues to pursue his career goals, Rohail is thankful to be part of a community that offers a vast alumni network which can help students like him connect professionally to the rights places.
