Kissinger Center book workshop with Research Scholar Dr. Alexander Bick

December 5, 2018

The Kissinger Center hosted a book workshop for Research Scholar Dr. Alexander Bick to provide critical feedback on his manuscript, Governing the Free Sea. The book looks inside the board of directors of the Dutch West India Company in the period 1645-1648, showing how ideas of empire and authority shaped mercantile decision-making, how company and state cooperated in practice, and how colonial policy furthered Dutch strategic objectives in Europe on the eve of the Treaty of Munster/Westphalia.

This session was one in a series of faculty-hosted Kissinger Center Research Workshops, a space for young academics to present and develop their scholarly work with SAIS senior faculty and peers. Other workshops have included introductions to publishing with scholarly journals, tips on publishing academic journal articles, and the review of dissertation manuscripts.
