Professor Hal Brands’ Lessons of Tragedy a Foreign Affairs best book of 2019

The Lessons of Tragedy: Statecraft and World Order, co-authored with Charles Edel, was selected as one of the best books of 2019 by Foreign Affairs.
In their book, Brands and Edel argue that a tragic sensibility – one that was hard-wired into Ancient Greek culture but forgotten by Americans after more than seventy years of great power peace - is necessary if America and its allies are to address the dangers that menace the international order today.
