Kissinger Center Book Workshop with Research Scholar Alexander Bick

The Kissinger Center hosted a book workshop for Research Scholar Alexander Bick to provide critical feedback on his manuscript, "Governing the Free Sea." The book looks inside the board of directors of the Dutch West India Company in the period 1645-1648, showing how ideas of empire and authority shaped mercantile decision-making, how company and state cooperated in practice, and how colonial policy furthered Dutch strategic objectives in Europe on the eve of the Treaty of Munster/Westphalia.
