Best Research Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy

Winner of the Best Research Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy is Dan Altman for his article, “The Evolution of Territorial Conquest After 1945 and the Limits of the Territorial Integrity Norm” appearing in International Organization.

Dan Altman is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. His research examines issues of international security, including territorial conquest, the fait accompli, red lines, coercion, and the causes of war. 

Runner-up for the Best Research Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy is Fiona Cunningham for her article, “The Maritime Rung on the Escalation Ladder: Naval Blockades in a US-China Conflict” appearing in Security Studies.

Fiona Cunningham is Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on international security, technology, and China.

Best Policy Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy

Winner of the Best Policy Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy is Audrye Wong for her article, “How Not to Win Allies and Influence Geopolitics: China’s Self-Defeating Economic Statecraft” appearing in Foreign Affairs.

Audrye Wong is an assistant professor of political science and international relations at the University of Southern California, and a Wilson Center China Fellow.

 
Runner-up for the Best Policy Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy is Michael Beckley for his article, “Rogue Superpower: Why This Could Be an Illiberal American Century” appearing in Foreign Affairs

Michael Beckley is Associate Professor of Political Science at Tufts University, a Jeane Kirkpatrick Visiting Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and the author of Unrivaled: Why America Will Remain the World’s Sole Superpower.
 
Runner-up for the Best Policy Article on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy is Danielle L. Lupton for her article, “Biden Has a Narrow Window to Restore U.S. Credibility: The Damage to America’s Reputation is Reparable–but Only If the New Administration Moves Fast” appearing in Foreign Affairs. 
 
 
Danielle L. Lupton is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Colgate University and the author of Reputation for Resolve: How Leaders Signal Determination in International Politics (Cornell University Press, 2020). Her research explores the impact of political elites and world leaders on international security, US foreign policy, and civil-military relations.
