The Dalai Lama to Speak at JHU SAIS Commencement

The Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, Buddhist monk and leader of the Tibetan people, will speak at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) commencement on Thursday, May 24 at 3 p.m.

The Dalai Lama is expected to speak about conflict resolution from a Buddhist perspective.

Admittance to the ceremony is by invitation only but will be open to the media for coverage.

Graduation will be held in DAR Constitution Hall, 18th and D Streets, N.W., Washington, D.C. Media should use the 18th Street entrance to the hall. Reserved seating for reporters will be available in balcony tiers L/M directly facing the stage. Reporters will have access to the press section starting at 1:30 p.m.

For security purposes, the State Department requires that reporters have a photo ID and press credentials that will be visible throughout the event. In addition, all broadcast press with equipment must arrive by 2 p.m. for security clearance.

SAIS is one of the country's leading graduate schools devoted to the study of international relations. Located along Embassy Row in Washington's Dupont Circle area, the school enrolls more than 450 full-time graduate students and mid-career professionals and has trained more than 10,000 alumni in all aspects of international affairs. During the graduation ceremony, SAIS will confer graduate degrees upon approximately 280 students.
