Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott to Speak at SAIS

Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott will give the keynote address, "America's Place in the World: A Tribute to Paul Nitze," on Wednesday, 09/27, at 7 p.m. as part of an evening to honor Paul Nitze, co-founder of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and principal author of National Security Council Paper Number 68 (NSC-68)-widely regarded as the United States' seminal strategic document of the Cold War era adopted 50 years ago this month.

The event will be held in the Colonial Room of the Mayflower Hotel located at 1127 Connecticut Ave., N.W. This event is not open to the public but media 05/attend to cover Talbott's speech. Media should RSVP to Felisa Neuringer at 202.663.5626 or [email protected].

On Thursday, 09/28 at 2 p.m., SAIS will host a forum, "NSC-68: Origins, Impact and Relevance," to commemorate the 50th anniversary of NSC-68. Panelists include Paul Wolfowitz, dean of SAIS, Melvyn Leffler, professor of history at the University of Virginia, Marc Trachtenberg, professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania, and Eliot Cohen, professor of strategic studies at SAIS.

Thursday's forum, which is open to the public, will be held in the Kenney Auditorium of the school's Nitze Building located at 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W.
