Economist Max Corden to Speak on Asian Financial Crisis

Dr. W. Max Corden, a professor of international economics at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), will give the annual Ernest Sturc Memorial Lecture on Thursday, 11/5/1998, at 6 p.m.

Dr. Corden's lecture topic will be "Sense and Nonsense on the Asian Crisis."

He is the author of many renowned books and articles on international economics, including most recently, "Economic Policy, Exchange Rates, and the International System." Dr. Corden also has taught at Oxford and at the Australian National University. From 1986 to 1988, he was a senior advisor in the research department of the International Monetary Fund.

The lecture will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

In 1983, the family of Ernst Sturc established the Sturc Memorial Lecture in international economic relations at SAIS as a tribute to his life and character. For many years as a senior official at the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Sturc was widely admired and respected for his efforts to achieve peace and progress through international cooperation.
