JHU SAIS and Committee of 100 to Host China Policy Debate

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Committee of 100, a Chinese-American leadership organization, will host an event, “China Policy Debate: Democratic and Republican Presidential Race 2012” on Wednesday, October 24 at 6 p.m. (A reception will precede the debate at 5:30 p.m.)

The debate between representatives from the Obama and Romney campaigns will focus on foreign and domestic policy issues related to China.

Debate participants include:

  • Jeffrey A. Bader, member of the National Security Advisory Committee for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, the John C. Whitehead Senior Fellow in International Diplomacy at the Brookings Institution and former senior director for East Asian affairs at the National Security Council (2009 to 2011)
  •  Aaron L. Friedberg, co-chair of the Asia-Pacific Working Group for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, professor of politics and international affairs and co-director of the Center for International Security Studies at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and former deputy assistant for national security affairs in the Office of the Vice President (2003 to 2005)
  •  David M. Lampton (co-moderator), director of the SAIS China Studies Program
  •  Benjamin Wu (co-moderator), vice chair of the Committee of 100 Washington, D.C., Region

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Kenney Auditorium of the school’s Nitze Building, located at 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., in Washington, D.C.
