JHU SAIS and JETRO N.Y. to Host Conference on U.S.-Japan Relations

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Japan External Trade Organization's (JETRO) New York office will co-sponsor a conference, "Economic Integration: U.S.-Japan Initiatives?" on Tuesday, 12/5 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A panel of experts from business, academia and government will discuss trends in regional integration and economic relationships for the new century. In particular, they will examine the future of the U.S.-Japan trade relationship.

Conference schedule:

9-9:20 a.m.-Welcome by SAIS Dean Paul Wolfowitz and Masutaro Urata, JETRO New York president

9:20-9:50 a.m.-Keynote address by Gary Hufbauer, Reginald Jones Senior Fellow at the Institute for International Economics

10:10-12:10 a.m.-Panel discussion

· Oakley Johnson, senior vice president, Corporate Affairs, American International Group

· Nobuyori Kodaira, director-general for International Trade Policy, International Trade Policy Bureau, Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan

· Robert Litan, vice president and director, Economic Studies, Brookings Institution

· Riordan Roett, director, SAIS Western Hemisphere Program

The conference is co-sponsored by SAIS and JETRO USA, a Japanese government-supported non-profit organization whose primary mission is to promote mutually beneficial trade relations between Japan and other nations.
