JHU SAIS and WNBA to Co-Host Book Event with Azar Nafisi and Jacki Lyden

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Washington chapter of the Women's National Book Association (WNBA) will co-host an event, "An Evening with Azar Nafisi on the Importance of Reading," on Tuesday, 10/25 at 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature a conversation between SAIS scholar Azar Nafisi, author of the best-selling Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books, and Jacki Lyden, National Public Radio correspondent.

Nafisi's Reading Lolita is a poignant tale of seven young women who came together to read and study classics of Western literature with Nafisi in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Lyden is the author of Daughter of the Queen of Sheba: A Memoir, which is the author's harrowing story of growing up with a mentally ill mother and how the experience contributed to her becoming a journalist.

Following the program, Nafisi and Lyden will be available to sign copies of their books.

The event will be held in the Kenney Auditorium of the school's Nitze Building, located at 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., in Washington, D.C. Reservations are required and are on a first-come, first served basis, as space is limited. There is a $10 fee to attend (which can be paid at the door). Registration is required, please RSVP to WNBA at [email protected] (event is free to SAIS community).Felisa Neuringer Klubes in the SAIS Public Affairs Office at 202.663.5626 or [email protected].
