JHU SAIS to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Hopkins-Nanjing Center
Nanjing University Chancellor Hong Yinxing to Give Keynote Address

Hong Yinxing, professor of economics and chancellor of Nanjing University, will give the keynote address at an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies (HNC) on Monday, April 9 at 4 p.m. The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) administers the center’s activities on behalf of Johns Hopkins University.

Hong will discuss “Studies on the Engines of Chinese Long-Term Economic Development .” He will give his remarks in Mandarin with simultaneous translation provided. Author of numerous books and articles, he was selected by The Chinese Market magazine in 2001 as one of the 25 economists who has substantial influence on China’s market economy. SAIS Dean Jessica P. Einhorn and David M. Lampton, SAIS dean of faculty and director of the China Studies Program, will provide opening remarks.

Established in 1986, the center, located in Nanjing, China, is a post-graduate educational joint venture between Johns Hopkins and Nanjing universities, providing approximately 200 students from the United States and other countries and China the unique opportunity to live and study together. American and international students take the majority of their classes in Mandarin, while Chinese students study mostly in English.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school’s Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public should RSVP to [email protected].
