JHU SAIS to Host Event on Quebec's Perspective on Globalization

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host an event, "Globalization: Yes, BUT… : A Quebec Perspective," on Monday, 12/2 at 12:15 p.m.

Louise Beaudoin, the minister of International Relations for the Government of Quebec, will be the featured speaker.

The liberalization of world trade has brought about great benefits. But its effects on democracy, social programs, and cultural identity are still under debate. For Quebec, globalization and free trade have been a highly visible success, precipitating the rise of a modern and technologically advanced economy. Yet it is these very questions about globalization that has Quebec saying "Yes, BUT…" to globalization.

The event, free and open to the public, will be held in the first-floor auditorium of the school's Rome Building, located at 1619 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public should RSVP to the SAIS Center of Canadian Studies at 202.663.5714 or [email protected].

Members of the media who want to cover this event should contact Felisa Neuringer Klubes in the SAIS Public Affairs Office at 202.663.5626 or [email protected].
