JHU SAIS to Host Forum on the Taliban and Drug Trafficking

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will hold a forum, "Have the Taliban Cracked Down on Drugs?" on Wednesday, 06/6 at 5 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at SAIS. James Callaghan, director of the State Department's Asian, African and European Programs/Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau, will be the featured speaker. Callaghan recently returned from a surveillance trip of the opium poppy cultivation situation in Afghanistan and will report on his findings. In the past, the Taliban have not interfered with the trafficking of opium but have recently started restricting opium poppy cultivation.

The event, open to the public and the media, will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public should RSVP to 202.663.7721 or [email protected].
