Lt. General David Petraeus to Speak at JHU SAIS
Lieutenant General David H. Petraeus will give the Third Annual Alvin H. Bernstein Lecture at the Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on Thursday, 11/16 at 5 p.m.
Petraeus, the commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, will speak about "Soldiering and the Schoolhouse." Currently based at Fort Leavenworth, Petraeus will reflect on his experiences in Iraq to discuss the importance of graduate school opportunities and education for Army officers.
Since 10/2005, Petraeus has overseen the Command and General Staff College and 17 other branch schools and training centers located throughout the United States. Prior to this position, he served for more than 15 months in Iraq as the first commander of the Multi-National Security Transition Command and as the first commander of the NATO Training Mission. He previously commanded the 101st Airborne Division for two years, which included leading the division for the first year of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.
