Pew International Journalism Program at SAIS to Host Conference on Engaging Young Americans in International News
The Pew International Journalism Program of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host a two-day conference, "New Eyes, New Voices: A New Generation Looks at War, Peace and International News" on Thursday, 05/15 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, 05/16 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In a time of global conflict, international news is more important than ever before. Yet surveys show that many young Americans are tuning out the news. The conference, which includes sessions featuring leading print, broadcast and online journalists, will examine this pressing issue. Famed journalist Lowell Bergman, a contributing reporter to The New York Times, "Frontline" producer/correspondent, and visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, will give the keynote address at 1 p.m. on Friday, 05/16.
The conference, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Kenney Auditorium, first floor of the SAIS Nitze Building at 1740 Massachusetts Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C.
Funded by a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts and based at SAIS, the Pew International Journalism Program offers international reporting fellowship opportunities to working U.S. journalists, as well as sponsors major conferences and events about the media.
