Pew International Journalism Program at SAIS to Host Conference on Impact of 09/11 on International News Coverage

The Pew International Journalism Program of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host a daylong conference, "International News and the Media: The Impact of 09/11" on Tuesday, 06/11 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the National Press Club.

Nine months after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, prominent U.S. and international journalists will gather for a series of panel discussions on how the events of 09/11 have changed media coverage of international news. The conference, hosted in conjunction with the National Press Club's Professional Affairs Committee, will include sessions featuring leading journalists and pollsters, as well as a keynote address at 2 p.m. by Richard Sambrook, director of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) News.

The conference includes the following sessions. A complete agenda of speakers is below.

8:30 a.m. - Registration and continental breakfast

9 a.m. - Welcome

9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. - "Do Americans Want More International News?"



10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - "The View from Abroad"



2 p.m. to 3 p.m. - Keynote address by Richard Sambrook, BBC News



3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. - "Covering the News for Changing U.S. Communities"



5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Reception for conference attendees

The conference, open to media professionals, will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the National Press Club located at 529 14th Street, N.W. in Washington, D.C.
