SAIS to Host Event Featuring Congressional Members to Commemorate 60th Anniversary of Korean War Armistice

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host a forum “Honoring Six Decades of Service: Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice” on Thursday, July 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.
 
This event, hosted by the U.S.-Korea Institute at SAIS (USKI), will feature a keynote address by Korean War veteran Charles Rangel, Democratic congressman from New York who served in the U.S. Army’s 503rd Field Artillery Battalion. A statement from Korean War veteran Maurice R. “Hank” Greenberg, chairman and CEO of C.V. Starr & Co., Inc., also will be read. Other featured speakers include:
 

  • John Warner, former Republican senator from Virginia who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War
  • John Conyers, Democratic congressman from Michigan who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War
  • Gen. Walter Sharp, former commander of the Republic of Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea for the U.S. Army (2008 to 2011)
  • Kim Jung-hoon, Republic of Korea National Assembly representative and special envoy to the 60th Anniversary Korean War Commemoration
  • Kevin Yoder, Republican congressman from Kansas
  • Ray Kapaun, nephew of Father Emil J. Kapaun, a U.S. Army chaplain who died as a POW in the Korean War and a posthumous recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor
  • Eleanor Porter, a lieutenant who served in the U.S. Army Women’s Medical Specialists Corps at Brook Army Hospital in Texas during the Korean War

 
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Room HVC-201 of the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center located at First Street and East Capitol Street in Washington, D.C.
