“Canada vs. US: Natural Gas Allies or Rivals,” a discussion with Unconventional Gas Resources CEO J. Michael Gatens, will be hosted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). 

In the wake of the North American shale boom, Canadian and U.S. producers of natural gas vie for market share in an extremely competitive, low-price gas market. Natural gas imports from Canada to the U.S. have waned in the face of increasing U.S. production, and Canadian producers are forced to look for alternative export opportunities. Gatens, Chair of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, will give an insider perspective into the current state of Canadian natural gas pricing, market access, and regulatory obstacles. He will also offer commentary on Canadian producers in the context of global natural gas markets.
