Celebrating the Lunar New Year
On February 7, the school hosted its third annual Lunar New Year celebration hosted by Asia Programs, China Studies, and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center. 200 alumni, students, faculty and supporters attended the event that opened with welcome remarks by Dean Vali Nasr.
An extra cause for celebration was the addition of Professors Davesh Kapur and Andrew Mertha, who both joined the school in 2018, to lead the Asia and China Studies programs, respectively, and Adam Webb, who has been a professor at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center (HNC) for more than ten years. As of January 2019, Webb is new to the role of American co-director of the HNC.
The school’s third annual Lunar New Year celebration marks the Year of the Pig (or Boar). The twelfth animal in the zodiac, the pig is known to be a happy animal. Those who celebrate hope that this year will bring forth good fortune and harmony.
