In-Depth Study of the Middle East

Mugi Bayarlkhagva
Master of Arts ’16
Middle East Studies
Home Country: Mongolia

Prior to starting graduate school, Mugi worked in a financial advisory capacity for green infrastructure projects and performed election observation missions with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. After speaking with various Johns Hopkins SAIS professors, he was impressed with the diversity and knowledge of the faculty. These experiences led to Mugi’s choice to attend Johns Hopkins SAIS for the chance to combine academics with practical application. During his time here, Mugi has taken advantage of various opportunities including a school organized trip to Israel/Palestine and conducting thesis research in Iran last summer.

Mugi has chosen to focus on the highly relevant Middle East region which has interested him personally for a long time and complements his previous professional experiences. He plans to achieve competency in one of the regional languages and to continue studying the global effects of events in the region including in his native North-East Asia.
