Dr. Tanvi Nagpal Appointed Director of the International Development Program at Johns Hopkins SAIS

The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Tanvi Nagpal will serve as Director of the International Development (IDEV) Program beginning July 2018.
 
“Dr. Tanvi Nagpal has been an exemplary scholar-practitioner and beloved professor whose teaching, research, and public square commentary are shaped by her deep knowledge about service delivery for the urban poor,” said Dr. Deborah Bräutigam, director of the China-Africa Research Initiative at Johns Hopkins SAIS. “IDEV is fortunate to have someone with her experience and heart leading the program.”
 
Dr. Nagpal has over two decades of experience in international development policy research and program management in East Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. She is an affiliated scholar at the Urban Institute where her research focuses on city-level financing for pro-poor sanitation improvements. Previously, she conducted environmental policy research at the World Bank and directed water and sanitation investments at Global Water Challenge. Nagpal also leads the IDEV practicum, connecting students with development institutions to analyze challenges and devise policy and investment recommendations. She has also served as a consultant to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
