Examining the Role of Special Operations Through a Study Trip to Fort Bragg

April 16, 2020

Students studying Strategic Studies at Johns Hopkins SAIS visited United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where they were given an inside look at the training and high-threat missions the Army Special Operations enterprise carries out across the globe. By having the opportunity to expand their studies outside the classroom, the students – many of whom will go on to serve in key government roles in the United States and abroad – gained a better understanding of how special operations fill a critical role in not just defending the United States, but also in maintaining strong and enduring alliances with almost a hundred partnered nations.

Hands-on learning is a hallmark of the Johns Hopkins SAIS experience. Through the many study trips the school organizes each year, students apply what they have learned in the classroom to complex, real-world problems.
