On the Fast Track to a Career in International Development

Madison Wilcox
MA ’17
International Law and Organizations
First Year: SAIS Europe
Recipient of the 2017 Presidential Management Fellowship

Madison first learned about Johns Hopkins SAIS while an undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University. When the time arose to apply for the joint BA/MA program, he immediately jumped on the opportunity, seeing it as a way to add both depth and breadth to his undergraduate education in International Studies. Courses aside, Madison was also drawn to the school’s expansive alumni network and impressive realm of job opportunities open to Johns Hopkins SAIS graduates.

His first year at SAIS Europe proved to be a highly rewarding and formative experience for Madison. Living in Bologna let him not only experience Italian culture, but also facilitated travel across Europe and the Middle East. Madison stayed in Europe last summer to intern at the International Trade Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. Now in his second year in DC, Madison is involved in economics research through an internship at the Brookings Institution. He also traveled to Vietnam with the International Law program, which provided tangible field experience that goes beyond what can be learned in the classroom.

After completing his studies, Madison hopes to work for either a multilateral organization or the federal government, and is particularly interested in working on sustainable economic development. He plans to explore job opportunities as a Presidential Management Fellow and at his former employer, the International Trade Centre.
