JHU SAIS Center Publishes New Issue of Transatlantic Magazine: Presenting an Agenda for the President's Trip to Europe
Transatlantic: Europe, America & the World, published by the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), has released its latest issue entitled "Bush II: Standing Alone or Working With Our Allies?"
As President Bush prepares for his upcoming trip to Europe in 02/later this month, Transatlantic magazine solicited exclusive advice from U.S. senators and European prime ministers, presidents, foreign ministers and journalists on how the president can improve transatlantic relations.
Senator Richard Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, sees the trip as an "opportunity" while Michel Barnier, the foreign minister of France, wants both sides to be "sincere." Valdas Adamkus, the president of Lithuania, calls for a "sustainable dialogue" and John Bruton, the new European Union ambassador to the United States, feels we need "more telephone and less megaphone."
