JHU SAIS to Host Conference on European Union and the Transatlantic Relationship

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the University of Paris-I (Sorbonne), and the International Institute of Public Administration will co-sponsor a two-day conference, "The Future of the European Union: Implications for the Transatlantic Relationship," on Friday, 03/30 and Saturday, 03/31.

Conference speakers include:

Jacques Delors, former president of the European Commission

Zbigniew Brzezinski, Robert E. Osgood Professor of American Foreign Policy at SAIS

Simone Veil, former president of the European Parliament and member of the French Constitutional Council

Stephen Breyer, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court

Alain Lamassoure, former minister for European Affairs and member of the European Parliament

Major discussion topics include:

"The European Union and the United States: Partners or Competitors?"

"Visions for the New European Union: Membership, Culture, Structures and Identities"

"Reforming the Institutions After Nice: Towards a European Constitution"

"The New European Economy and the Transatlantic Relationship"

"European Security and the NATO Alliance"
