JHU SAIS to Host "Control Room" Screening and Discussion

Former CentCom Spokesman Featured in Film to Serve as Panelist

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host a screening of "Control Room" followed by a panel discussion featuring one of the film's main subjects on Monday, 03/7 at 5:30 p.m.

"Control Room" is the critically acclaimed documentary by Egyptian-born filmmaker Jehane Noujaim that offers rarely seen insight into the Al Jazeera television network's coverage of the early days of the Iraq war. In a non-didactic manner, the film raises provocative questions about the role of the media, the manipulation by government and the search for truth in war coverage.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with:

· Josh Rushing, former Marine Corps captain and Central Command spokesman, who is prominently featured in the film. He is currently a scholar-in-residence at the University of Southern California's Center for Public Diplomacy

· Mohammed Alami, a Washington-based reporter for Al Jazeera

· Rajiv Chandrasekaran, former Washington Post Baghdad bureau chief and current journalist-in-residence for the SAIS International Reporting Project

· Patrick Theros, former U.S. ambassador to Qatar and current executive director of the U.S.-Qatar Business Council

The event, free and open to the public, will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public should RSVP to [email protected] or 202.663.7726.
