JHU SAIS to Host Forum on U.S.-Europe Relations

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will hold a forum, "The End of the West? U.S.-Europe Relations," on Friday, 11/8 at 1:30 p.m.

Panelists for this forum, hosted by the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute and the Center for Transatlantic Relations, include:

· James Schlesinger, senior adviser to Lehman Brothers, chairman of the MITRE Corporation, former secretary of Defense and Energy and former CIA director

· Francis Fukuyama, Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy at SAIS

· David Owen, member of the House of Lords and former foreign secretary of the United Kingdom

· Daniel Hamilton (moderator), professor and director of the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations

Relations between the Bush Administration and its closest allies are characterized by disagreements over a series of issues ranging from Iraq and the use of force to trading conflicts, nation-building and climate change. Is this just another cycle of periodic tension in an otherwise healthy relationship? Or do such issues herald transatlantic divorce? The panelists will address these issues in this unique debate.
