Johns Hopkins SAIS and Sciences Po Offer Student Exchange Program

Washington, DC and Paris—The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (Johns Hopkins SAIS) and the Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) have announced a student exchange program beginning academic year 2016–2017. The exchange program provides the opportunity for students at the two institutions to study at one another's campus locations for credits earned toward a degree conferred by the student's home institution.
Johns Hopkins SAIS Dean Vali Nasr said the exchange program expands opportunities for students to gain global experience benefiting their careers. "We are pleased to partner with Sciences Po in developing cross-sector leaders who can address multifaceted challenges in global affairs. With this new exchange program, Johns Hopkins SAIS expands its network of institutional partnerships among the preeminent schools of global business, global health, international diplomacy, international law, and public policy. Our partnership with Sciences Po also builds upon the school’s longstanding reputation in Europe for developing global leaders.”
Sciences Po Vice President Francis Vérillaud pointed to a historical context the two institutions have in common. "Sciences Po and Johns Hopkins SAIS were both founded as a result of wars which highlighted the lack of quality training available to decision-makers, Sciences Po after the Franco-Prussian War and Johns Hopkins SAIS during World War II. Due to these similar origins and founding principles our institutions share a special link, and we are very excited to be strengthening this bond today. We look forward to deepening our partnership with SAIS in the years to come," Vérillaud said.
Johns Hopkins SAIS students in the PhD program and the two-year Master of Arts at the Washington, DC and Bologna, Italy campuses are eligible to apply for the exchange. Doctoral students may apply for an exchange of up to one year, while Master of Arts students can participate for up to one semester.
Applications will be reviewed by the home institution. Master of Arts students are eligible to apply for the exchange after completing one semester of study at the home university, and must have completed two semesters of study at the home institution before the enrollment date of the exchange. Doctoral students at Johns Hopkins SAIS must complete all coursework and the dissertation prospectus before applying for the exchange. Doctoral students at Sciences Po may apply for the exchange after completing one to two years of study at Sciences Po.
