Johns Hopkins SAIS expert available to discuss impeachment votes in Brazil

EXPERT ADVISORY

As the Brazilian government moves forward to impeach President Dilma Rousseff, Riordan Roett, Director of the Latin American Studies Program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), is available to offer insight on the future of the country plagued by political corruption and the Zika virus outbreak.

Dr. Roett predicted an “increasingly probable” annulment of the election results to out the president, as Brazil struggles with congressional discord and rising unemployment.

He is available to discuss:

  • Why impeachment? The future of Brazilian politics, if the process is successful.
  • Is there any good news about the Brazilian economy?
  • If the impeachment process is successful, is there a danger of social unrest by supporters of the president?
  • Is it fair that members of Congress who are passing judgment on the president are themselves accused of corruption and financial irregularities tied to the state oil company, Petrobras?

Dr. Roett has offered commentary on Brazil’s economy and politics as cited in Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera and Christian Science Monitor.
