Johns Hopkins SAIS expert available to discuss turmoil in Brazil impeachment proceedings
EXPERT ADVISORY
As Brazil grapples back and forth with the prospect of impeaching President Dilma Rousseff, Riordan Roett, Director of the Latin American Studies Program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), is available to offer insight on the country's political future.
In the latest development of the speaker of Brazil's lower house calling to annul the impeachment process and then reversing his decision, Dr. Roett said the move now opens the way for a vote this week to remove Rousseff from office for six months while her trial proceeds in the federal Senate.
Dr. Roett is available to discuss:
- What did Rousseff's administration do – or not do – to create the environment for impeachment?
- How does the political chaos economically and socially impact a country already burdened with a slow recession recovery?
- Are there any obvious candidates for the presidency in the 2018 national elections?
- Who is Michel Temer and does he have a solution to the current political and economic crises in Brazil?
Dr. Roett has offered commentary on Brazil’s economy and politics as cited in Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera and Christian Science Monitor.
