Johns Hopkins SAIS to host a conversation on “Building Europe’s Future,” with German Finance Minister Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble on Thursday, April 20, 2017

A conversation on “Building Europe’s Future,” with German Finance Minister Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble, will be hosted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
 
Minister Schäuble will talk about the increasing global interdependencies, which require more cooperation and coordination on the European and global level. He will outline the political structure of Europe, which has been determined by Europe’s history. He will also argue that to regain confidence, Europe needs to respond to urgent questions in a way that is visibly European.

About the Speaker
 
Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble has served as the Federal Minister of Finance of Germany since 2009.  Schäuble has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1972 and served as the Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary group in the Bundestag from 1981 to 1984. From 1984 to 1991, he served as a member of Helmut Kohl’s cabinet as the Federal Minister for Special Tasks,  the Head of the Federal Chancellery, and later as the Federal Minister of the Interior. Between 1991 and 2000, he was the chairman of the CDU/CSU group in the Parliament; and from 1998 to 2000, he served as the CDU National chairman. He has also been a member of CDU, Presidium since 2000. From 2002 to 2005, he was the Deputy Head of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag for Foreign Security.
