Johns Hopkins SAIS to host discussion on new book, "The Third Pillar: How Markets and the State Leave the Community Behind,” with Raghuram Rajan April 12, in Washington, DC

The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host a seminar with Raghuram Rajan, Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, to discuss his latest book, The Third Pillar: How Markets and the State Leave the Community Behind. This event is presented by the Dean's Forum.
 
During the discussion, Dr. Rajan will address the following questions related to the book: 

  • What are the social and economic consequences of technological change and globalization?
  • How does all this affect politics?
  • What is the importance of local communities in responding to the resulting dislocation?
  • Why are barriers to international trade and immigration short-sighted solutions to global problems?

The event is open to the public and media, with registration. Members of the working press can request to cover the event selecting "Media" on the online registration form. About Raghuram Rajan
Raghuram Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between September 2013 and September 2016. Between 2003 and 2006, Dr. Rajan was the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund. Dr. Rajan’s research interests are in banking, corporate finance, and economic development, especially the role finance plays in it. The books he has written include The Third Pillar: How Markets and the State Leave the Community Behind, 2019, I do What I do: On Reform, Rhetoric, and Resolve, 2017, and Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy, for which he was awarded the Financial Times-Goldman Sachs prize for best business book in 2010.
