The launch of The Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy (ISEP) will be hosted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
The Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy at Johns Hopkins SAIS is an interdisciplinary research program designed to offer innovative policy recommendations for emerging economies geared toward a sustainable future. Based on cutting-edge social science, ISEP will offer pragmatic policy options to help governments pursue their development priorities at minimal economic and environmental costs.
The launch event is presented by the Dean’s Forum and the Energy, Resource and Environment (ERE) Program at Johns Hopkins SAIS.

About the Speakers
Rachel Kyte is Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Sustainable Energy for All. A leading advocate for sustainable development and recipient of many awards, she drives SEforALL’s work to mobilize action towards its 2030 goals on universal energy access, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. As SRSG, she is the UN point person for the new global goal on sustainable energy. Her previous roles have included World Bank Group Special Envoy for Climate Change and World Bank Vice President for Sustainable Development. She is a professor of practice in sustainable development at Tuft’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Johannes Urpelainen is the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Professor of Energy, Resources, and Environment (ERE) and Founding Director of the Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy (ISEP). Urpelainen is the award-winning author of four books and over 100 articles on environmental politics, energy policy, and global governance. As one of the world’s top energy policy experts, he frequently advises governments, international organizations, and the private sector on energy and environment.
