About the Speaker

Wes Moore is a motivational speaker, best-selling author, combat veteran, and a social entrepreneur. His first book, The Other Wes Moore, a perennial New York Times best-seller, captured the nation’s attention with its focus on the fine line between success and failure for young people in society. The book has been optioned by Oprah Winfrey and HBO to be made into a movie. He is also the author of the best-selling books The Work, Discovering Wes Moore, This Way Home and his latest release, Five Days: The Fiery Reckoning of an American City, which focused on the 2015 riots and unrest in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray.

Moore currently serves as CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the largest anti-poverty forces in the nation. The foundation’s mission is to lift families out of poverty in New York City by providing support for food, housing, education, legal services, and workforce development. Prior to joining the foundation, Moore founded and served as CEO for BridgeEdU, a Baltimore-based education platform that addressed the college completion and job placement crisis by reinventing freshman year for underserved students.

A Johns Hopkins alumnus, Moore earned a Master of Letters in international relations from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in 2004. He then served as a captain and paratrooper in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and was deployed for combat in Afghanistan. He later served as a White House Fellow to then-U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Moore also worked in finance as an investment banker with Deutsche Bank in London and Citigroup in New York.
