Johns Hopkins University announces SAIS Dean Search

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:

In November, I announced that we would be conducting a global search to identify the next dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) to succeed Dean Eliot Cohen following the conclusion of his two-year term in June 2021. I am pleased to share that a search committee, chaired by Provost Sunil Kumar, has been formed to help facilitate this critical task.

During his tenure, Eliot has implemented key organizational and curricular changes, brought much-needed fiscal balance to the school, improved integration of the three SAIS campuses, increased interdivisional partnerships across the university, and significantly exceeded the school’s fundraising goals.

We profoundly appreciate Eliot's myriad accomplishments as dean and his ongoing leadership of the school.

I am also grateful to Provost Kumar and each of the committee members, who are listed below, for accepting this important service to the school and the university. The executive search firm Spencer Stuart will work closely with all of us to develop an exceptional pool of candidates and facilitate the process. We look forward to commencing this search and are confident we will find an exceptional dean to lead SAIS as it moves to its exciting new home at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue and sets the vision for its future.

As the search gets underway, I encourage you to share your thoughts and confidential nominations with the search firm at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Ronald J. Daniels
President
