Jaime chose to apply to Johns Hopkins SAIS because she wanted to pair her liberal arts undergraduate degree with an economics skill set, which is an integral part of the school’s curriculum. She also felt strongly that a degree from the school would be marketable in a variety of sectors.

In the spring of 2018, Jaime interned at the US Department of State in the Bureau of African Affairs, Office of Economic and Regional Affairs. During her time there, she contributed to writing briefs for former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s travel to the African continent. Following that experience, she was selected as a Pathways Intern with the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and she is currently working as a Program Officer in the Department of Compact Operations, Africa Office on projects in Tunisia and Ghana.

The week before the start of her second year at the school, Jaime participated in the school’s two-day leadership retreat, SAIS Leads. The hands-on activities aimed at developing and honing leadership skills helped her identify and improve her strengths and reflect on her leadership style in group settings. Furthermore, SAIS Leads provided her the opportunity to meet fellow classmates that she would not have otherwise.

In November, Jaime was named a Presidential Management Fellow. She is currently in the process of applying for positions in the US government such as the departments of State, Commerce, and Treasury.

After graduating, Jaime hopes to become a Foreign Affairs Officer at the State Department.
