Message from Dean Vali Nasr on Executive Order on Immigration

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

President Trump’s recent executive order on immigration has raised many questions for those in the Johns Hopkins SAIS community. As underscored in recent important messages from JHU President Daniels and Provost Kumar, the order runs contrary to the values and mission of a school that was created to further international engagement and which has over the decades trained generations of the world’s leaders.

The vision of an insular world is not one that we can build our future on. We remain committed to the diversity of our community, to open inquiry and debate, and social and political engagement in order to further understanding of the complexities of our world and to building bridges across cultures.

Johns Hopkins SAIS prides itself on a student body that represents 70 countries and a global footprint with campuses on three continents. We stand together, united in our support of colleagues, students, and families who, no matter where they come from, have contributed so much to this institution and this country. We remain committed to our founding principles and welcome students and faculty from across the world, and support their education, research, and teaching.
