A Night of Oscar-Worthy Performances

On February 22, the student Thespians troupe hosted its second annual production for the school’s community. The event featured 21 students performing a series of comedic short plays in front of a crowd of their peers and family.

Getting a diverse group of performers to dedicate their time and talents to the show was important for the organizers. The diversity of the performers contributed to a lively, excited crowd that came out to laugh and support their friends. Key to the performance was the delight in watching students let loose and express a creative side outside of the classroom.

The Thespians experience is unique for the amount of control participating students have over their own performances. As a show put on, directed, and acted by the students, actors often changed their lines and character to comment on issues such as British colonialism and the benefit of learning Excel graphing.

The Thespians group was started three years ago on the SAIS Europe campus, and was then introduced to the Washington, DC campus. Student performers said they hope the tradition will continue into next year, as first year students take the mantle of theater at the school.
