Chris Chivvis is an author and senior analyst specializing in national security and foreign policy issues. He was the associate director of the RAND Corporation’s International Security and Defense Policy Center from 2014-2018 and previously served in the U.S. Department of Defense and worked in a number of U.S. and European think tanks and universities. He is the author three scholarly books including Toppling Qaddafi, on NATO’s 2011 intervention in Libya and The French War on Al Qa’ida in Africa. His current scholarly work focuses on the history of great power competition in Europe. He received his PhD from SAIS in 2003.
