About

Mr. Talarico is an executive with over 30 years of experience in the financial markets, including private equity, distressed investing and investment banking. He is currently Managing Partner of Cora Street Partners, a family office established in 2009 that makes investments in private equity and real estate transactions. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Asian Studies of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), teaching a graduate level course on the financial systems of Japan and China. From 2011-2013, Mr. Talarico was Chief Executive Officer of Gordon Brothers Group, a global advisory, lending and investment firm primarily focused on the retail industry with offices in Boston, New York, London and Japan. Prior to joining Gordon Brothers, he was a Managing Director of Sun Capital Partners, a $10 billion private equity firm, and was responsible for the New York office of the Firm as well as for establishing and overseeing the Japan office of Sun Capital. Over the course of five years with Sun Capital, Mr. Talarico was responsible for 22 acquisitions totaling over $600 million.

Mr. Talarico has over 20 years of experience in investment banking split between the United States and Asia, advising on over 50 mergers, acquisitions and exclusive sales and hundreds of financings and IPOs. Prior to joining Sun Capital, Mr. Talarico spent five years in Japan as a Managing Director of the Deutsche Bank Group and Head of Global Corporate Finance in Japan, joining Deutsche Bank through its acquisition of Bankers Trust. At Deutsche Bank, Mr. Talarico’s management responsibilities included M&A, Equity Capital Markets, Industry Groups, Real Estate and Private Equity. Mr. Talarico joined BT Alex. Brown in 1998 a year prior to the company’s acquisition by Deutsche Bank, where he served as Country Head of Japan and Managing Director, overseeing the securities, commercial banking and asset management operations of Bankers Trust in Japan. Mr. Talarico began his investment banking career at Lehman Brothers, where he spent 15 years from 1983 to 1998, joining Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb in New York in 1983. From 1989 to 1998, Mr. Talarico was as a Managing Director in the Financial Services Group where he was the senior banker to major banks, finance companies and selected European and Japanese financial institutions in the U.S. From 1985 to 1988, Mr. Talarico was a founding member of Lehman Brothers’ Japan Investment Banking Department in Tokyo, where he established and managed financial services-related businesses, including general corporate finance and the creation of the debt and equity capital markets, derivatives and private placement businesses.

Mr. Talarico has an M.A. in International Relations with concentrations in International Economics, Asian Studies and American Foreign Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and serves as a member of the Advisory Board of SAIS. He is also a member of the Board of the Japan Society, serving as Chairman of the Investment Committee and is founding board member of the Quogue Club at Hallock House, a private for profit club and hotel, and a member of the Executive Committee. Mr. Talarico has also been a board member of Polaroid and Sharper Image, which were converted into brand licensing companies while owned by Gordon Brothers. He also served as a board observer on 14 company boards during his time with Sun Capital. Mr. Talarico is fluent in Japanese.
