Dr. Monica Lopez-Gonzalez teaches in the Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR) Program at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University.
For Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez, building a seamless interactive human-centric relationship with technology is critical for an ethical and sustainable future with autonomous artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled systems. Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cognitive Insights for Artificial Intelligence and a serial entrepreneur and business executive since 2008 known for her human-centered and industry-agnostic approaches to tech and business, Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez is an expert in the science, ethics, and governance of AI and is on the front line of the AI-enabled Autonomous Systems, Healthcare/Biotechnology, Cybersecurity, and Education industries. She is a global public speaker and writer and has presented and published her work nationally and internationally in various formats across a range of venues.
Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez’s other appointments across the university include in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering for Professionals' Artificial Intelligence Master’s Program, Whiting School of Engineering; the Department of Cognitive Science and AAP’s Master of Science in Data Analytics and Policy, Krieger School of Arts & Sciences; Executive Education, Carey Business School; and the Department of Neurology, School of Medicine. A 21st century polymath and multilingual speaker, her interdisciplinary courses sit at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Neuroscience, Design, Ethics, Entrepreneurship, Public Policy, and International Relations.
Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez has received numerous recognitions and awards including: Baltimore’s Top 10 BioHealth Startup CEOs, The Business of Biotech; Outstanding Recent Graduate Award, Office of the President and Alumni Association, Johns Hopkins University; Millennial Leader of the BioHealth Capital Region, BioHealth Innovation, Inc.; Particularly Imaginative Polymath, Imagination Institute, Positive Psychology Center, University of Pennsylvania; Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts, Office of the Provost, Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez has BAs in Psychology and French, and a MA and PhD in Cognitive Science, all from Johns Hopkins University. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She also has a Certificate of Art in Photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a Graduate Certificate in International Studies with a focus on Strategic Studies from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. And she most recently earned a Certificate in AI Policy from the Center for AI and Digital Policy, Washington, D.C. and a Certificate from the Venture Capital University Independent Director Initiative, University of California Berkeley, School of Law.
