John Giles is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He works for the World Bank in the Development Research Group (DECRG) as a lead economist in the Poverty, Inequality and Human Development Teams. Prior to joining the World Bank, he was an Associate Professor of Economics at Michigan State University. His current research interests include: the movement of labor from agricultural to non-agricultural employment, internal migration and its impacts on households and communities, evaluation of active labor market programs, school-to-work transitions, and population aging and retirement decisions in developing countries. Dr Giles received his PhD in Economics from UC Berkeley, and some years earlier, an MA in China Studies and International Economics from Johns Hopkins-SAIS.
