How to Apply for Financial Aid

  1. When you complete your application for admission to Johns Hopkins SAIS, be sure to answer "yes" on the application when you are asked if you would like to apply for financial aid.
  2. If you are a US citizen or permanent resident alien, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon as possible. You must file the FAFSA by our deadline (see below), but we encourage you to file as soon as the FAFSA becomes available online in January. Some types of aid are first-come, first-served.
  3. If you are applying to a SAIS Europe program, complete the SAIS Europe Financial Aid Application by the deadline. For more information, visit the SAIS Europe Financial Aid page.

Important Information on the FAFSA

All US-based students, including permanent residents, are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

You must complete the FAFSA if you wish to be considered for federal student aid, as well as certain Johns Hopkins SAIS awards. External scholarship granting organizations may require your completed FAFSA as well.

There is no income cut-off to qualify for US federal student aid and you may be eligible for more aid than you think. To determine your eligibility, visit studentaid.ed.gov.

Veterans Benefits

We are proud to accept applicants who are eligible for Post-9/11, Chapter 33 and Vocational Rehabilitation. Johns Hopkins SAIS is approved by the District of Columbia Higher Education Licensure Commission (HELC) for the training of veterans and the widows and children of deceased veterans.

Yellow Ribbon Program

We also participate in the Post-9/11 GI Bill ® Yellow Ribbon Program.

This program provides funds to veterans in addition to the standard tuition benefit of the Post-9/11 Program. Student's receive 50% of their Yellow Ribbon Award from the school and 50% from the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
